2.4 Assessment details

Provide a rationale for each assessment (e.g. the case study is completed in groups of three to five students to develop valuable communication and collaboration skills).

Provide criteria by which the standard of work will be judged and guidance to assist students to complete each assessment.  In developing criteria some key principles are:

  • make the criteria or checklist simple to use
  • give the criteria to the students before they do the assignment
  • involve students in the design of the criteria
  • encourage students to use the criteria as a checklist – research has identified that engaging students in peer assessing past exemplars has a significant and lasting impact on the standard of work submitted
  • check students understand the criteria on which they are being assessed
  • use these criteria for marking, for checking consistency across markers and for feedback subsequently to students

Identify any assessment submission procedures (e.g. assessment cover sheets; applications for extensions, appeals, special consideration; modes of submission such as print and/or electronic). For more information, see the Faculty Electronic Compliance Statement.
