Online groups

Many learning, teaching, and assessment activities which occur in face-to-face group work contexts can be directly applied to, or modified for the online group context.

Online learning and teaching methods

  • Creating and interacting in virtual environments (eg Blackboard, discussion forums)
  • Electronic forms of communication (eg email, chat rooms, bulletin and notice boards, video conferencing, teleconferencing)
  • Interactive learning activities (eg discipline based software, workplace simulations, data processing, statistical analysis)
  • Use of online resources (eg web links, software, e-books, e-journals)
  • Interactive assessment tasks (eg formal and informal tasks such as an e-portfolio, PBL, self assessment surveys, online examinations, self test/quiz
